Maureen Carey, JD, MMFT, LMFT, CSAT-C
Carolina Counseling, LLC
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Kenyon College, a Law Degree from The Ohio State University College of Law, and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pfeiffer University (Charlotte, NC).
I completed my post-degree clinical training concurrently at the St. Francis Bon Secours Cancer Center in Greenville, South Carolina and the Emerge Family Therapy Center & Teaching Clinic in Spartanburg, South Carolina where I also completed a two-year fellowship in Couple’s Therapy with a focus on The Gottman Method. I am a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a trained facilitator for both PREPARE/ENRICH and The Gottman Institute’s Bringing Baby Home Program. I believe that every person, without exception and regardless of circumstances, is dignified and worthy of my love and respect by virtue of their very existence. My belief in the relational nature, inherent dignity, and inestimable worth of every person is the foundational principle of my therapeutic approach with individuals and couples. Our own imperfect natures, experiences, unhelpful thoughts, and unhealthy behaviors, though, can undermine our calling to be our healed, healthy, and whole selves. I strive to create a warm and respectful bond with my clients to build a foundation of comfort and acceptance on which to work toward this healing. It is my privilege to seek to use the self of the therapist, my life experience, education, clinical skills, and therapeutic knowledge to accompany, support, and guide my clients on their journey to physical, psychological, spiritual, relational, and emotional well-being. I use an evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach (CBT) supplemented by helpful information, books, techniques, and practices to address a variety of issues including marital conflict and disconnection, low self-esteem, and grief and loss. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist-Candidate (CSAT-C), I work in collaboration with our multi-faceted treatment team at the Center for Sexual and Relational Health to treat individuals and couples for sex addiction, pornography addiction, and betrayal trauma. I am accepting new clients at this time and seeing them at 28 Parkway Commons Way. Please call (864) 428-1993 to set up an appointment. |
